Have a Safe Summer, Pumas!

As we close out this school year, we’ve experienced new changes and challenges and unfortunately watched tragedies unfold during a time of crisis. Please make sure to read the end-of-year message from Cadence Park School, letter from IUSD Superintendent Walker with summer resources and information about Optimistic Household as well as the National PTA and California State PTA statements on racial injustice and inequity. Even with the unexpected adjustments made this year, our PTSA Board is thankful for the friendships, connectedness, and diversity of our school community and proud of the efforts of our team. Over the last year with your support, we have worked to improve and enrich the lives of all our Cadence Park School families through the development of programs, technology, and supplemental learning experiences. We didn’t get to end the year as we had hoped but are extremely proud of the impact we’ve made in only our second year in operation. With the generous contributions of our puma families and community sponsors, the Cadence Park PTSA was able to support the following efforts this school year:

  • Teacher and Classroom Grants for all Cadence Park classrooms including a Giving Tuesday grant which funded specific teacher-directed technology and music initiatives.

  • Technology to support the growing needs of our school. With your support, the virtual Jog-A-Thon funded 64 NEW CHROMEBOOKS!

  • Supplemental Learning Experiences such as the Brainstorm STEM on-campus classes, Assemblies like the Walk-Through History events, Puma Time supplies, and support for the Middle School Leadership team activities.

  • Accessibility Initiatives such as spirit wear donations and 100 Mile Club program enrollment for all pumas in need.

  • On-Campus Infrastructure + Services such as skateboard racks, emergency supplies, shadow boxes, and directed lunchtime activities that helped to engage all students.

  • Key Programs such as Red Ribbon Week, Reflections Art Competition, Teacher + Staff Appreciation, Girl Talk + Guys Stuff, 100 Mile Club, and Dad’s Club. Like you, we are disappointed that many programs which had been planned (International Night, Puma Marketplace, Field Day, and the end-of-year “Puma-Chella”) were not able to happen. Funds raised from Pledge Drive and Silent Auction will initially fund programs in the 2020/21 school year.

  • Community Events like our “super” Book Fair  (which donated books for the library and STEAM supplies for Creation Station as well as books for every teacher), and Spirit Socials such as our kick-off Puma Party and Puma Gras!

All of this is possible with your support and engagement. Together, we can bring about change. Thank you for your partnership and interest in making our school community shine!

This wasn’t the year we expected but our puma community has shown incredible strength, adaptability, and optimism. We hope you have a wonderful and safe summer pumas!

Miracle for Youth is offering Cadence Park students FREE one-on-one tutoring and curriculum resource that connects children with tutors in high school. More information linked here.

 IUSD Optimistic Household Modules

IUSD launched Optimistic Household a couple of weeks ago as part of it's ongoing efforts to connect students and families with resources that support learning and social emotional wellness at the highest levels. Over the summer, IUSD will release new Optimistic Household modules that may be helpful and of interest to your family.  Exploring and participating in these activities can make a difference, especially as we head into the summer when some students may feel a greater sense of being disconnected from friends and their traditional summer activities.

Food Assistance Over the Summer

For families who need food assistance over the summer break, IUSD has partnered with Families Forward, which offers long-term food assistance to families in need.  Click here for more information about Families Forward's weekly food pantry and other community resources,

Cindy Espiritu Update

The Espiritu family would like to thank all the support they received for Cindy and their family in the form of well-wishes and meal deliveries while Cindy was undergoing medical treatment. Cindy's husband Neil Espiritu provided the PTSA an update on Cindy's recovery, and it's great news!

Cindy is recovering well after her treatments. Cindy's sister was a bone marrow  match, allowing Cindy to receive her healthy stem cells. After treatment, Cindy's test results show that Cindy is cancer free!

Neil adds, "the last six months have been a blur, but without the support from family, friends, and the Cadence Park Puma family, we would've easily been overwhelmed. The Cadence Park community has been instrumental in getting Cindy back home and healthy".

We are so thrilled to hear of Cindy's cancer free diagnosis and that she is back home with her family!

We will be communicating details on the distribution of our yearbooks as they become available. The printer was unfortunately shut down temporarily due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.  PTSA has ordered a few extra copies and those will be sold for $35 while supplies last.

Connecting Community Through the Arts

Continuing arts education and encouraging creative endeavors is now more important  than ever as it fosters critical thinking, improves well-being, relieves stress, and positively impacts learning in all areas. The California PTA partners with Create CA, an organization advocating for equitable student access to a quality arts education.

The #CreateAtHome website offers an array of quality arts activities.
